Kamurocho / Kamurochou

Kamurocho 神室町 is the name of the main locale for the Yakuza games. Due to different renderings of Japanese words into English it can also be spelled Kamurochou which was used on official RGG5 promotional material.

Kamourocho is the fictionalised name of a neighborhood based on real life area of Shinjuku, Tokyo called Kabukichou 歌舞伎町 (Tokyo 東京, Kanto 関東 Honshu 本州).

The game area of Kamurocho reflects Kabukichou quite realistically and has a very similar basic street layout. From Yakuza 1, the producers have tried to bring a touch of authenticity to the game by including or mimicking real life locations. There are several tie-ins to real life locations such as:

Don Quijote store
Matsuya restaurants
Shichifuku Street car park complete with adverts for host clubs!
Kabukicho Gate

Many of the main areas have more than passing similarities to their real life counterparts e.g. Kamuro Theatre, Club SEGA, Volcano and Mach Bowl. For fans of the series it is recommended to use Google Street View to take a virtual tour of Kabukichou. Some of the minor buildings also appear in places incongruous to the game.

Yakuza 1

All the game takes place in Kamurocho and the surrounding areas (Docks and Tojo Clan Headquarters).

Yakuza 2

The game starts in Kamurocho, before moving to [[Soutenbori]] and [[Shinseicho]], Osaka.

Yakuza 3

The game moves to Kamurocho in the second half after spending the first half in Okinawa / Ryukyu.

Yakuza 4

The game takes place wholly in Kamurocho. With the occasional visit to the [[Sunshine Orphanage]].

Yakuza: Dead Souls

The game takes place wholly in Kamurocho.

Kamurochou features briefly at the start of Seajima's section in Part 2. However, the area features mainly in Part 5, Kiryuu's part.
